BALMAIN COACH MOVES TO RUSSIA
UTS Balmain Tigers Men’s Coach, Erkin Shagaev, has been appointed as Head Coach of the Russian Open Mens Team starting immediately. Former Olympic Gold Medallist and Australian Head Men’s Coach is to move to Moscow to take up the appointment next week.
Erkin won Gold as a player at Olympics, World Championships and World Cups, before moving to Australia with his family to work in the Australian Water Polo system. Balmain Chairman, Phillip Bower, although shocked at the sudden nature of the appointment wished Erkin the best for his future endeavours. “Although we are disappointed that Erkin is leaving us before the coming National League season, everyone at the Club wishes Erkin nothing but the best as he undertakes another chapter in his Water Polo Life. I have known Erkin since he first landed in Australia, love him or hate him, no one can deny Erkin’s passion and love for our great game. He has always been a champion for Water Polo in this country and Australia owes him a great debt for the Legacy he has left us. As both Senior and Junior National Men’s Coach he raised our Nation to heights that were unimaginable previously. Erkin started the NSW Intensive Training Centre something which our Institutes are now based on.
First Grade games at “Dawny “ will not be the same without Erkin and his histrionics on the side of the pool. Personally I am looking forward to Erkin leading the Russian team to Sydney one day as I have a promise from Erkin that a TIGERS V RUSSIA game at DAWNY will be on his schedule. “
