My Balmain club

I would like to thank the Balmain club for inviting me to a coaching role and consider this appointment as an honour. I am humbled by the goodwill shown and the kind words about me by everyone. I look forward to working with the players, officials and all members, and will do my best to help in the  efforts to continue the great traditions of quality water polo that the club  has always had.

OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST TO COACH BALMAIN WATER POLO CLUB

The Balmain Water Polo Club is honoured to announce Erkin Shagaev as the new Men’s 1st Grade and National League coach for the upcoming 2012/13 season. The club is privileged to have the world-class talent of an Olympic Gold Medalist and the former coach of The Australian Men’s Team (Aussie Sharks) to take on this role. Erkin has an unrivalled knowledge of the game and will help to develop some of Balmain’s promising young players. This is an exciting step for the club and the playing group are 100% committed to his intense approach to the game. Club stalwart, Gavin Woods, is very encouraged by the signing and added, “having been coached by Erkin over a number of years I am aware of what is required. There is no doubt in my mind that with Erkin’s guidance this group can achieve something no Balmain side has done before, win a National League title”.

Past Balmain Men’s and Women’s National League coach, Phillip Bower, had nothing but praise for the appointment, “Erkin is a highly respected coach with a worldwide reputation, he has a great knowledge and passion for the game of water polo. I believe Erkin will take this Balmain side to new heights over the next few years and I hope every member of the club gives him their utmost support. I look forward to watching the Tigers play at Dawny this coming season”.

The team will be looking to defend their Sydney Metropolitan title in the Sydney Summer competition that begins this Saturday (6th October) against UNSW Wests – the Men’s game starts at 3pm at Ashfield pool.
